Meltdown Countdown - 49 critical hours of the TEPCO teleconference

(TOUDEN TV KAIGI 49 JIKAN NO KIROKU)

The Video Document of Chaotic Administration of TEPCO

at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster

Tokyo based independent media OurPlanet-TV released the video document, “Meltdown Countdown - 49 critical hours of the TEPCO teleconference” in 2013, which chronicles the struggles and chaotic management of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station during the time of the nuclear disaster that started on March 11th, 2011. This video document received the grand prize from JASTJ (Japanese Association of Science & Technology Journalists) in 2014.

Culled from over 49 hours of internal video conference records from inside the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the original video document presents four hours of footage from March 12th to March 15th, 2011. Those hours show the public what exactly happened inside the company and how TEPCO continued to lose control as the situation grew more and more serious.

We made an English version of this important historical document with the hope of screening it worldwide. Cutting down the original 206 minutes version to this 102 minutes version, we aim to share an insider’s point of view as we reflect on the origin of one of the world's worst nuclear disasters.
